Running

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.  – Isaiah 40:31 –

March 4 – Fight for Air Climb (70 Flights of Stairs) – Renaissance Center, Downtown Detroit
http://www.lung.org/pledge-events/mi/detroit-climb-fy12/
Not technically a run, but still a race. Like the Polar Plunge, I was able to simultaneously add and cross off a bucket list item. Let me tell you… climbing stairs is a whole different game compared to running on flat ground!

I was able to run up the stairs, 2 at a time, as fast as I could, for about 11-12 flights (there are 70 total). I hit an imaginary wall.  Heavy breathing and dizziness set in; I needed to reevaluate my climbing strategy and probably my life.  From that point on, I (literally) took it one step at a time.  Using the railing and stopping for water (twice), I made it all the way to the top!!  Sweating and gasping for air, I entered the down elevator, reflected on my accomplishment, and vowed to be back next year.

This was way more difficult than I anticipated.  I was able to complete all of the obstacles (larger walls with the help of my teammate 🙂 ) even though some were quite perilous.  Lessons learned in preparing for the Warrior Dash.

Upon this rock we stand. Victorious.

I have no idea why I’m getting slower, but mid-24 seems to be my new standard.  It was in the high 80’s, sunny, and muggy, so that will be my excuse for now.  Joe almost died.
